How we treat each other here
HalalRate is built on trust. These guidelines apply to all users — diners and restaurant owners alike.
Be honest in your reviews
Write about your genuine experience. Don't post reviews for restaurants you haven't visited. Don't submit reviews in exchange for discounts or free meals — this violates both our guidelines and consumer protection laws in most jurisdictions.
Be respectful
Critique food, service, and halal practices — not people. Personal attacks on staff, owners, or other users will be removed. Reviews that are clearly retaliatory, discriminatory, or intended to damage rather than inform will not be published.
Report, don't retaliate
If you believe a restaurant is misrepresenting its halal status, use our "Flag" feature. Do not post accusatory reviews without evidence. Our moderation team will investigate all flags thoroughly and take appropriate action.
No fake listings or reviews
Restaurant owners may not submit reviews of their own business or organise review campaigns. Competitors may not submit negative reviews of rivals. We use multiple signals to detect coordinated review activity, and violations result in permanent account termination.
Respect privacy
Do not share personal information about staff members. Do not post photos of identifiable individuals without consent. Reviews involving specific staff complaints should focus on the experience, not personal details.
Use the right channels
For disputes with restaurants, try contacting them directly first. Use our report feature for platform violations. For legal or safety matters, contact us at safety@halalrate.me. We take all safety-related reports seriously and will respond within 24 hours.
Consequences of violations
Minor violations result in content removal and a warning. Repeat or serious violations lead to account suspension. Severe violations (fraud, harassment, legal threats) result in permanent termination and, where appropriate, referral to relevant authorities.
